Full recent survey available, valued at 60000€. After an extensive refurbishment and rigorous testing on the North Sea, SV Atlas is ready to sail into your next next adventure once again.
50 years of pure soul, yet she sails and feels brand new. This is the boat that makes you fall in love with the sea all over again. Imagine powering through 40-knot winds and contrary currents with a huge grin on your face, knowing your boat is built like a North Sea battleship and ready for anything. That’s the Doggersbank 401, a 13 m, 15-ton, 5 mm steel Dutch legend from 1978 that has already proven she can take you anywhere on the planet. This is the real deal: A tough, honest, character-filled bluewater ketch that will look after you and your family for the next 50 years. No projects. No compromises. Just pure freedom, safety and off-grid confidence on the water. The cockpit is classic (not a giant modern sun-lounge), but infinitely safer with the mizzen mast and shrouds giving you extra handholds exactly where you need them. Short-handed or solo? This boat makes it feel easy and secure.
This vessel was designed to be a capable, sturdy, safe and forgiving exploration cruiser. The boat has already completed its first circumnavigation and is now ready to go wherever you please. The insulated interior can keep out the heat in the summer as well as the cold in the winter and the central wood/coal burner (diesel heater also available as backup) keeps the temperature comfortable even during cold winter nights. The boat is also equipped with the necessary piping for a Webasto type heater. The cockpit is well equipped. Hydraulic steering as well as tiller steering is available with a convenient hydraulic bypass valve just below the steering wheel to switch between the two without a moments notice. Quick and surprisingly nimble maneuvers with the tiller as well as a steady course with the hydraulic steering can be comfortably executed and maintained. The winch controls are within easy reach and all of the sails can be adjusted from the cockpit. Despite the hefty weight of 15 tons, the yacht also performs well. Two masts on which a lot of sail can be hung, a flexible rigging, which makes it easy to choose the right sail for any weather. The strong stainless steel tube railing as well as the outer wall extension make every trip to the main mast and bow a safe and confident journey. Personal harnesses, lines and hardpoints to hook into are also available. The additional supports at the main mast give a secure hold while hoisting, trimming and taking in the sails. Storm sails and sea anchor also available. The ship was built using a round frame with interlaced round bent 5mm steel sheets, making this the strongest hull possible. Aries windvane and Raymarine GPS autohelm installed. Depending on the wind direction, the sails can also be set in such a way, that the boat will hold the wind bearing on its own without any autopilot needed. The underwater ship features thick layers of 2K tar epoxy, 3 layers of Mistral Fondo followed by anti fouling. This ensures a rust free and well protected hull. Enough air vents on deck for good ventilation below decks which is especially pleasant in southern regions. In the front there is a cabin with a double berth, two additional berths with lee sails are available in the saloon. The boat is comfortably furnished with a nice galley, a good toilet and plenty of storage space. The white paint accented by treated hardwood makes for a well lit and good looking interior even on cloudy days. From aft to front there is the engine room, then a navigation table with GPS, a laptop and plenty of space for charts, galley on the other side. The salon sits in the middle of the boat, followed by the head, clothing cabinet and finally the bow cabin with a double bed in front as well as spacious storage. The ship has large tanks allowing even longer crossings and the famously strong and reliable Ford-Lehman engine provides power exactly when you need it most. Replacement parts for the engine and fuel filter stored and available. The fuel system features two 300l diesel tanks each with individual filters and cutoff valves. The cooling is done via keel cooling, removing the need for any engine preparation during winter and making it impossible for the heat exchanger to get clogged with debris. The electrical system starts with 5 batteries with a combined energy storage of around 6kWh/500Ah. These can be charged using the land connection, the 3 solar panels (120-150W/10-12A on sunny days), the wind generator (max 300W/25A) tested up to 28kn while charging and approximately 50kn in standby, or the engine generator. Two inverters are available, one pure sinus 300W used for entertainment/charging devices or power tools and one 1000W used for cooking to reduce the reliance on gas. New full set of sails rigged and flying plus older set as backup under deck.
