Ta Chiao CT48 Cutter The Ta Chiao CT-48, designed by Robert Perry and built in Taiwan in 1989, is a heavy-displacement bluewater cruiser crafted for serious offshore sailing. It features a solid fiberglass (GRP) hull with a traditional full keel and a skeg-hung rudder, offering excellent directional stability and seakeeping in challenging conditions. The hull measures 14.75 m overall, with a beam of 4.74 m and a draft of approximately 2.00 m.
This particular model features a cutter rig, offering excellent sail balance and multiple sail combinations for safe and efficient long-distance cruising, especially valuable in varying wind conditions and heavy weather.
Her centre cockpit configuration ensures safety and comfort under sail, while providing a spacious interior layout below deck. Built with a solid fiberglass hull, full keel, and heavy displacement, the CT 48 is renowned for its seaworthiness, stability, and traditional nautical charm.
Power comes from a Perkins 85 HP diesel engine supported by dual fuel tanks with a combined capacity of about 900 liters, allowing for extended cruising range. Freshwater capacity totals approximately 1000 liters, ideal for long passages.
The interior layout provides comfortable accommodation for six across two cabins and a spacious saloon. The aft owner’s cabin includes an ensuite head and offers privacy and direct access to the passageway bunks. Forward is a cabin with bunks, served by a second bathroom. The saloon features a large settee to port with a dining table, and an additional sofa to starboard adjacent to the navigation station. The interior is finished in classic teak, enhancing the warm and inviting atmosphere aboard.
This cutter is well-suited for sailors seeking a traditional, solidly built sailboat with excellent ocean-crossing capabilities and comfortable living spaces.
Well known among serious cruisers, the CT 48 cutter combines timeless elegance with proven offshore performance.
