Songbird is a well maintained example of Bavaria’s renowned Ocean Series, with a safe, dry centre cockpit and reinforced hull. She underwent a refit in 2016 and €20,000 refit in 2023/24 in preparation for a single handed sailing on the Atlantic. With a new (2024) Garmin 18x doppler radar and chart plotter GPSmap 923xsv with charts for the Caribbean and East Atlantic installed, a water maker (can run on just solar power), a substantial 600 watts solar array, and impressive tankage, she is well equipped for long passages and remote anchorages, where she benefits from the superior holding power of a 25kgs Rocna anchor and 80 metres of 8mm chain. It is possible to mount an inner forestay and Songbird’s sail wardrobe includes a stormjib, and a working jib with furler though this is untested by the present owner. There is a telescopic spinnaker pole which works well for poling out the big genoa. Hydrovane wind steering gear is fitted, which is essential for long passage making and provides the redundancy of a second rudder. The stern arch benefits from reinforcement, includes a lift for an outboard and is sufficiently strong to lift the dinghy in and out of the water. A Dinghy and 2.5hp outboard are included in the inventory. A Balmar 100A alternator serves the 400Ah domestic bank (2023). In addition 300Ah Lifepo and DC/DC charging has been installed in 2024. There is 12V/USB Charging/220V Shore/inverter (2000w) power throughout. A new bimini fitted in 2025 gives shade and accommodates standing height in the cockpit. The fitted spray hood has new windows. The galley benefits from a new extra insulated, very efficient top loading fridge which has a new compressor and evaporator. Songbird has a new (2024) four person life raft, Iridium Go with the possibility to mount an antenna and a grab bag containing life support, flares and rockets. Standing rigging and diaphragm are in good condition but should be replaced within a couple of years. A Coltri Dive compressor and dive tank is included. There is a lot of of spares, lines, a spare anchor, a stern anchor and much more. She is “ready to go” there are even kitchenwares onboard.
