The boat was built by boatbuilder Hakon Hansen in 1984, completed and launched in 1988, and has only had 3 owners, all of whom have taken very good care of her. Hakon Hansen himself sailed the boat to the Azores in his time.
Gaia is built to cross the big seas, is very solidly built and has plenty of space and comfort on board, including waterborne heating from a Refleks stove (diesel) with radiators in all berths, saloon and pilot house. The heating system runs completely without electricity consumption. There is even a small wood-burning stove as a supplement.
Hakon Hansen's boats are known for their great seaworthiness, speed and their calm passage through the water in all kinds of weather. Gaia even has an enclosed pilot house, so it can be steered away from wind and waves when the weather is rough.
In recent years, the boat has been updated by the current owner with, among other things, a new teak door in the cockpit, solar panels 2 x 425W w. Victron Smartsolar charger w. Bluetooth, DC/AC converter 2024, lithium battery 640Ah w.
