Sporty J/Boats J80 ready for the water
This 2005 J/Boats J80 is a familiar favorite for anyone who enjoys active sailing, crisp steering and direct feedback in the cockpit. Designed by Rob Johnstone, the J80 is known as an accessible sportboat that lets you enjoy relaxed day sailing as well as serious race training. With an overall length of 8.00 meters and a beam of 2.51 meters, she offers a fine balance between stability and liveliness. The polyester hull with V-bottom and single rudder give her a sharp, predictable character, while the tiller steering out in the cockpit delivers that pure sailing feel many sailors look for.

This J/Boats has been used at sea and comes with a great story: she was previously based in Lanzarote, then sailed over toward Cádiz and later came to Belgium. Routes like that often say something about the type of boat: built to sail, built for speed, and built for fun with a crew. The last time she was taken out of the water for maintenance was in 2024, and the antifouling treatment was also done in 2024. Documentation is available.

Why is a J80 so popular as a sportboat?
The J80 is popular because she accelerates quickly once there’s wind, while remaining straightforward to handle. This one-design sailboat is raced worldwide, making her attractive for those who want to train, compete, or simply experience what it’s like to sail a truly sporty keelboat. The combination of a relatively low weight of around 1,450 kg, a draft of 1.50 meters, and a direct tiller makes her lively without becoming unmanageable. Hoist the spinnaker and the J80 shows why she is so often chosen for club racing and class events.

Is she suitable for racing and one-design sailing?
Yes, this J/Boats J80 is particularly interesting for racing and training within the J80 one-design class. The model was developed with equality and performance in mind, meaning success depends mainly on trim, tactics and teamwork. That also makes her a great learning platform: anyone looking to improve sailing skills, spinnaker handling, boat handling and starts will find a boat in the J80 that gives immediate feedback. At the same time, the boat remains practical enough to sail back into the harbor easily after an evening training session.

What about comfort and overnight stays on board?
Inside, the headroom is 77 cm, which fits the sporty character of this type of sailboat. She is fitted with mattresses and offers 1 fixed berth and 2 additional berths—handy for a short overnight stay after a day on the water or a weekend away. Don’t expect a floating apartment, but rather a functional cabin where you can sleep dry and store gear. That simplicity suits a sporty keelboat: less weight, more sailing fun.

What equipment and safety features are included?
On deck she is equipped with, among other things, bow and stern pulpits, lifelines, fenders and lines, and a swim ladder. The cockpit is self-draining, which is ideal for sporty sailing and when taking spray over the bow. For basic navigation there is a log and speedometer on board. Everything currently on board is included as stated, so you get a complete picture of what you are buying at auction.

Is a trailer included?
No, no trailer is included. This J80 is offered without a trailer.

This J/Boats J80 combines sportiness with simplicity, making her an attractive choice for anyone looking to buy a fast sailboat via Boatauction. She invites you to get out on the water, build speed, and—with a crew—get the most out of trim and technique.
