Nota
Under one ownership since 2009, Samara has been well loved, regularly maintained and lightly sailed, for the most part along the Essex and Suffolk coast and rivers, together with a few extended passages. I have had many years of enjoyment sailing Samara and will be sad to see her go, but age (me not the boat) forces sale.
Samara is a Dufour 36 Classic constructed in 2002. As such, she is an extremely comfortable, solid yet nimble cruiser complete with an extensive inventory of equipment (listed below). Whilst having three double berths in three cabins, she would undoubtedly suit couples or a small family with room for guests on occasion. Unique to Dufour, the forecabin has a double berth offset to the port side with a large wardrobe to starboard and deep lockers forward of the berth making for a very comfortable cabin, ideal for the skipper and partner.
For those unfamiliar with the 36 Classic, Dufour produced two option, a twin aft cabin version with smaller heads and smaller galley and the single aft cabin version. Samara is the latter of the two with a large heads compartment, a longer galley and a cavernous locker, behind the heads, which is accessed from the cockpit. She is equipped with all the comforts of home together with everything necessary for inshore and offshore sailing, including shore power, battery charger, water heater, 2 x water tanks, gas cooker, fridge, electric anchor windlass, 4-man life-raft, VHF radio, Chart plotter, navigation instruments, active radar and much, much more.
Samara is a typical single hulled (grp) sloop with a lead fin keel and driven by a Volvo Penta 29hp inboard engine, sail-drive and three blade folding bronze propeller. The sail suite consists of a 135% furling Genoa (new 2020) and a fully battened (with cars) Mainsail (new 2021). The Mainsail is fitted with single line reefing and three reefs. There is also a red storm gib (as new, never used). All complete with new lazy bag and new spray-hood (2022). The engine and sail-drive were fully serviced in 2021 by French Marine, complete with new sail-drive gaskets and exhaust elbow to engine. The life-raft was replaced new in 2022.
The wide side decks are laid to teak, as is the foredeck and cockpit. This provides secure footing and safety whilst walking on deck and allows unhindered access from the cockpit to the foredeck. All lines are lead aft, via jammers, to the cockpit and self-tailing winches ensuring that Samara can be sailed single handed should the need arise, or the urge take you.
In recent years Samara has undergone around £20k of maintenance and upgrades to keep her in tip-top condition, including new sail suite and covers, comprehensive engine and sail-drive servicing, complete hull strip, restore and antifoul, topsides polished and new coachlines.
If you’re looking for full provenance and documentation then Samara comes with enough paperwork to fill a cockpit locker. Complete with bills of sale, manufacturers certificate RCD rating, maintenance, equipment and parts bills, VAT invoice, SSR certificate, original vessel manual and more.
Currently located in Suffolk, Samara is afloat, rigged and ready to sail away. Alternatively, there is a pontoon berth available until end March 2027, if required, subject to negotiation. In the first instance kindly contact using the online form for more information or to arrange a viewing.
