You can shorten the time until you set sail with two new films on the Internet about water sports and sailing around the world.
Powerful water sports films
Until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the premiere of the International Ocean Film Tour always took place at this time of year in front of a large audience. As an alternative this year, the organisers of the tour have created an online offering: The ten best water sports films from previous years will be made available for download in three packages. These include documentaries about an offshore swimmer, a surfer riding waves between ice floes, one of the world's most successful marine photographers and an extraordinary crew of circumnavigators:
When Great Britain called for the first Whitbread Round the World Race in 1973, not only the most renowned international sailing teams took part, but also an underdog: Ramón Carlín, who had never taken part in a race before. The 50-year-old Mexican sets off on his journey with a ragtag crew and little experience. Initially derided by the press as the laughing stock of the race, Carlín becomes the unexpected favourite. The film "The Weekend Sailor" tells his legendary story.

Around the world with low tech and low budget
Corentin de Chatelperron is as unusual as the project he has been working on for four years. Since setting sail in 2016, his round-the-world voyage on the catamaran "Nomade des Mers" (French for "sea nomad") has taken him almost around the globe. Including mast breakage and other minor and major disasters - and above all: against the prevailing wind direction.
However, the Frenchman is only a sailor and navigator in second place. The engineer's primary passion is tinkering and inventing. He sails from continent to continent with a changing crew to find, try out, develop and disseminate low-tech solutions all over the world(Interview in YACHT 10/2020).
He has now reached Mexico after adventurous experiences on the Pacific. He had originally planned to return to France in summer 2021, but the pandemic has also thwarted his plans - his return across the Atlantic still lies ahead of him.
Nevertheless, the television channel Arte is now broadcasting the second season of the documentary about his mission: The new episodes of "With compass and brains on the high seas" are still available in the Arte media library until the end of April available. The first season is also available there.
