The excitingly beautiful, classic lines originate from the Van Oossanen Naval Architects studio in Holland, which became famous for the legendary and victorious wing keel of the "Australia II" in the 1983 America's Cup, among other things. The Hutting 46 Explorer is also equipped with such a keel with wings protruding from the side. Van Oossanen's lines, on the other hand, remain classic all round and breathtakingly beautiful, with a spoon bow, retracted yacht stern and a pronounced deck bulb.
Like all boats from Hutting Yachts, the new 46 Explorer is designed for long and, above all, demanding voyages. The hull and deck are built entirely from aluminium (6-8 millimetres) in Dick Koopmans' shipyard. This means that the attractive yet extremely robust retro classic will also be suitable for extreme voyages in remote areas. Storms and ice should not be able to harm the ship - that is the concept.
The design of the cockpit with the deep cockpit and the high, all-round cockpit coaming also matches this. Here, the crew is well protected and has a firm hold. The 46 Explorer is equipped with a steering pedestal and a short traveller in front of it. The sail plan provides for either a self-tacking jib or a fairly wide overlapping genoa. The upper and lower shrouds are separate, which also allows unhindered access to the foredeck.
Hutting Yachts offers the 46 Explorer as a semi-custom concept. This means that customers determine the equipment and design themselves within the scope of the possibilities. Hutting is also flexible when it comes to the interior design to meet the owner's wishes. The layout shown in the gallery above with two cabins and two heads is just one of the many options.
The first Hutting 46 Explorer is currently in the final construction phase and is due to enter the water for the first time in May of this year. There is no price list, but Hutting Yachts does give a volume for the investment: future owners will have to pay around 1.4 million euros (excluding VAT) for a boat of this type.
