We were able to test the new Linjett 36 extensively in our home waters in fantastic sailing conditions and icy cold. First impressions of the sailing characteristics of the noble Swede.

The Linjett 36 is one of the most exciting new products from Sweden - alongside the Hallberg-Rassy 370which we tested last autumn. We will be able to see both boats at the Ancora Yacht Festival in Neustadt. The 36 is the more compact version of the Linjett 39which was named European Yacht of the Year in the cruising yacht category by the international jury in 2023. With an overall length of eleven metres, she is around one metre shorter than her larger sister, but adopts her concept as an easy-to-handle performance cruiser with excellent build quality.

Powerful sailing

The area around the Rosättra shipyard north of Stockholm is characterised by narrow fairways, changing wind conditions and numerous islands. During our test run, the wind speeds were between twelve and 22 knots with strong gusts and squalls. Under gennaker, the Linjett 36 constantly reached between 7.5 and eight knots in 15 to 16 knots of wind; in stronger gusts, the log climbed to over nine knots and the top speed was 10.2 knots. However, it had freshened up so much that most sailors would have long since unfurled the gennaker at the push of a button. On the cross, the boat ran with one reef in the mainsail and the 110 per cent jib between 5.7 and six knots at a tacking angle of around 80 degrees.

Safe steering behaviour

What is particularly striking is how good-natured the Linjett 36 is on the rudder. The blade provides just the right amount of pressure to sail practically blindly along the wind edge. It also has very good grip in the water and you never lose control. Even with too much heel, the boat can be kept cleanly on course. Nevertheless, there is a clear sign of impending disaster. The direct steering transmits the vibrations of detaching vortices to both wheels, causing them to jerk almost like a lane departure warning system in a car as soon as you approach a stall - even before you fly off course. This makes the Linjett 36 extremely easy to steer.

Sophisticated handling for small crews

All sheets, halyards as well as trim and reefing lines converge inside the superstructure at two stopper batteries on the coamings and can also be operated from the helm - a concept that the shipyard has consistently adopted from the larger 39. The 36 is the first model in the Linjett series to be equipped with a permanently attached bowsprit as standard, which not only serves as an anchor holder, but also enables gennakers or code zero to be set. The Seldén electric furler proved to be a convenient solution for fast furling and unfurling.

The aft cabin is comfortable and offers plenty of headroom.

High-quality workmanship

Typical of Linjett is the elegant interior, which is finished in mahogany as standard. However, oak or other woods are also available on request. As the shipyard manufactures everything itself and on site, the interior design can be highly customised. However, there are no layout options. Two comfortable cabins and a bathroom with separate shower are standard. There is also plenty of storage space in cupboards and lockers as well as a very large cockpit locker, which is also accessible from the inside. There is also a sail load that can accommodate fenders, code zero and gennaker. The basic price is 4.22 million Swedish krona, which corresponds to around 389,000 euros net or 463,000 euros gross at the current exchange rate.
