The highly performance-orientated design once again comes from ORC artist Matteo Polli, as a further development of the successful Corsa 9.15 racer (winner of the ORC European Sportboat Championship 2021 and 2022). The aim of the project is for the Ecoracer 30 to establish itself internationally as a new one-design class and even have its own regatta series from 2024. The sporty Italian should also be successful in ORC and IRC racing.
The slim T-keel with an impressive draught of 2.30 metres can be raised to a large extent. This means that the Ecoracer 30 OD can be transported tilted sideways on a special trailer. The rudder blade can be removed for this purpose and the standard carbon fibre mast can be split. The very long carbon fibre bowsprit can also be removed in a few simple steps for use on the road. The Ecoracer 30 OD is powered by a shaft motor installed centrally under the cockpit floor. An electric motor with pod drive is also available as an option.
Northern Light Composites in Italy builds the hull and deck of the Ecoracer 30 One using a sandwich construction with vacuum infusion. The laminate is built over a core of recycled polymer foam with ecologically sustainable flax fibres and a layer of carbon fibre inside and out to protect against impacts. The composite structures are designed by NL Composites in such a way that they can later be fed into a new, innovative recycling process. The parts are placed in a special solution that splits the individual components of the laminate. This means that the carbon and flax fibres as well as the foam core and the resin can be recycled.
Northern Light Composites has already built a boat using this method with the Ecoracer 25 test boat (see picture gallery below). The design - also based on plans by Matteo Polli - has attracted attention with numerous successes. What's more, the shipyard was honoured with the Sustainability Award in the European Yacht of the Year Awards for its innovative and sustainable construction method.
The first Ecoracer 30 boat is now under construction and is due to be officially unveiled at the grand finale of "The Ocean Race" in Genoa at the beginning of July 2023. The price is quoted at around 155,000 euros, including 19% VAT, but still without the sails and electronics.
