A whole fleet of classic yachts is expected in Neustadt in Holstein on the Bay of Lübeck at Whitsun. The regatta in honour of the famous German designer Max Oertz, who was born in Neustadt in 1871, is being held there for the 20th time

The name Max Oertz is inseparable from the emergence and rapid development of German yacht building at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. As a yacht designer, outstanding sailing yachts of all sizes were built under his leadership.

The event begins on Thursday 25 May with a welcome evening at the Schaich boatyard on Fehmarn and a feeder regatta from there to Neustadt on Friday. In the evening, there will be a get-together by the fire bowl, and on Saturday, after breakfast together, the up-and-down regattas will take place on the course. The evening will be characterised by the traditional asparagus dinner. The Max Oertz regatta and a party will follow on Sunday, before the return journey home on Monday after a ceremony and the inauguration of a sculpture in honour of Max Oertz in the town.

In honour of the famous German designer, a classic regatta has been sailed in his birthplace Neustadt in Holstein since 2001, to which around 50 yachts are regularly entered by their owners. The fleet is moored in the picturesque town harbour, with the marquee set up directly in front of it, where people eat and drink, party and dance. The informal atmosphere is particularly important to the organisers. In terms of sailing, the event has plenty of excitement to offer with an up-and-down and several triangular regattas, but the sailing is not overly competitive. Many family crews gather at the start after the legendary joint breakfast and enjoy taking to the course together.
