The America's Cup beckons in Barcelona in 2024
The year 2024 will be a sailing year like no other: The America's Cup in Barcelona is sandwiched between the Olympic regatta off Marseille and the Vendée Globe in November. The schedule for the 37th match for the most famous jug in international sailing has now been finalised

It's still a little way off, but 2024 is already beckoning with three major sailing events within a few months: the Olympic sailing regatta off Marseille with the medal-winning national sailing team will kick things off from 28 July to 8 August. The opening ceremony for the America's Cup will take place in Barcelona on 22 August. All teams will have already gathered in the Spanish harbour metropolis from June 2023.

The schedule for the decisive match for the "bottomless pitcher" has now been announced: The winner of the challengers will face the New Zealand defenders in a duel from 12 October after the end of the "Challenger Selection Series" (end of August/September). Including reserve days, the time window for the America's Cup showdown is open until 27 October. After that, it will only be two weeks until the starting signal for the tenth anniversary edition of the Vendée Globe with Boris Herrmann and the "Malizia - Seaexplorer" is given on 10 November 2024 (13:02).

The second half of the 2024 sailing season promises breathless excitement and needs to be planned well in advance by fans. All of the venues - Marseille (Olympics), Barcelona (America's Cup) and Les Sables-d'Olonne (start and finish harbour of the Vendée Globe) - are likely to be in a state of sporting emergency. All of these European destinations are also easily accessible for German fans. If you want to join in the excitement on site, you should organise your accommodation in good time.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
