After the state capital of Kiel acquired the site, which had been used for military purposes for decades, from the Federal Republic of Germany at the end of 2020, it lay fallow. Its future use was unclear. Now the site, which was previously inaccessible to the public, is being opened up to the public.
The approximately 1.4 hectare site on the north bank of the Plüschowhafen harbour in the district of Pries/Friedrichsort and adjacent to Holtenau is about to enter a new era. The Kiel council has made a decision: The plots on the site will be reallocated.
The western plot, which was unanimously awarded to the diving pier interest group, will be developed into a centre for scuba divers. A clubhouse is also to be established there. The majority of the east plot, including the hall and slip, goes to Frank Sothmann's company Yacht Service Kiel. Rouven Rademacher from the shipyard Rademacher Composites GmbH takes over the centre plot together with Niklas and Axel Mutzek from "Unterwasserkrause", who offer practical professional diver training.
The contracts for the transfer of the land to the new operators have not yet been signed, but there is already planning certainty. The first building applications have been submitted and the site is now to be prepared for reconstruction by means of a comprehensive explosive ordnance survey. As soon as confirmation has been received from the city, the collapsed bridge will be dismantled and rebuilt by driving new piles.
The now completely dilapidated and sunken "diving pier" is still occupied by sailing boats that have moored there despite the warning signs. The sailors have even set up a kind of "shuttle service" and are using the power distributors illegally. But this will soon come to an end.
With the decision that has now been made and the upcoming renovation work, nothing stands in the way of this maritime piece of Kiel being revitalised in the near future. Water sports enthusiasts can look forward to more berths being created and a wonderful, usable area being made available to them. There is great hope that action will be taken quickly so that this unique location will soon be available to all water sports enthusiasts again.
