The Norwegian Skagerrak publishing house is launching a new harbour and area guide for the stretch of coast from Stockholm to Högakusten. It can be used free of charge for 30 days via app or web

As far as the Stockholm archipelago, you generally sail along well-trodden paths. Area information is easy to obtain. Once you reach the northern border of the archipelago, the situation changes fundamentally. Beyond Arholma, not only does the number of yachts decrease abruptly, but there is also hardly any nautical literature left.

This makes the new "Harbourguide 10" from the Norwegian Skagerrak publishing house all the more pleasing. The guide covers the coasts from the northern end of the Stockholm archipelago to the northern end of Högakusten. In addition to the aerial photographs with marked courses familiar from the other books in the series, the "Harbourguide" also offers charts that provide significantly more information than is usual in the nautical charts of the area. The surveys of the bay and harbour plans come from the private Swedish surveying company Hydrographica and go far beyond the normal nautical chart standard.

Swedish-German with AI translation

The descriptions of the harbours and natural harbours are divided into a general and a nautical section and are written in Swedish. An automatic AI translation into German is integrated in the online version. The underlying service from Microsoft delivers good results in the general section. The AI has a harder time with nautical terms, so "schwoien" sometimes becomes "schwanken", and anyone mooring at a jetty has to "verbeugen" instead of mooring the boat. From the context, however, the texts are perfectly understandable.

Volume 10 is currently only available in the Harbourguide app or via the website www.harbourguide.com available. You have to register and then you can use the service free of charge for 30 days. This then applies to all area guides from the Norwegian coast via Denmark, Germany and Poland to Högakusten, as well as Greece and Croatia. After the trial period, two different payment models are available. You can either book the service on a monthly basis for 8 euros per month, or take out a significantly cheaper annual subscription for 48 euros. The subscription can be cancelled at any time, including directly after the summer cruise. A printed version is to follow.

Until now, the provision of area information in the region north of Stockholm has been very patchy. Anyone sailing further north had to rely on the outdated " Norrlandskust " of the Swedish Cruiser Club. Although the cruising guide describes many harbours and bays, it lacks detailed maps for the approach and often also depth information. The situation is similar with the even older PDF manual " Bottenhavskusten - i Gävlefiskarnas kölvatten " from.
