On Sunday, 30 March 2025, the Henningsen & Steckmest yacht and boatyard in Kappeln an der Schlei will open its doors to interested parties. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to gain a comprehensive insight into the shipyard's operations. The event marks the start of the season and offers the opportunity to get to know the family-run marina, the construction of the Scalar yachts, the winter storage and the repair operation. The shipyard team will be presenting its entire range of boatbuilding services and current projects. The focus will be on the new construction of a Scalar 40, complemented by two refit projects: a Scalar 34 and a Scalar 36. These models represent the core business of the shipyard, which specialises in exclusive, customised yacht and boat building.
A special highlight of the event is the presentation of a Team 8 training boat, a project that emphasises the shipyard's commitment to promoting sailing in the region. The new boat will be used to further expand sailing lessons at schools in Schleswig-Holstein. It offers a practical opportunity for pupils to learn the basics of sailing and gain maritime experience. The shipyard wants to make an important contribution to nautical training and to strengthening the maritime tradition in the region.
Visitors to the open boatyard day will gain detailed insights into the various areas of the company. The marina and winter storage show the infrastructure for looking after boats out of season. In the Scalar yacht building area, interested visitors can follow the development process of high-quality sailing yachts. The extensive repair shop demonstrates Henningsen & Steckmest's technical expertise in the maintenance and modernisation of boats. The presentation of refit projects illustrates how older yachts can be restored to new splendour through expert refurbishment.
The yacht and boatyard Henningsen & Steckmest looks back on a long tradition. Since 1958, the company has dedicated itself to yacht building and has continuously developed further. The event offers the opportunity to experience this tradition at first hand and at the same time take a look at modern boat building techniques. The combination of proven methods and innovative approaches characterises the work of the shipyard and is reflected in the projects presented.
The Open day at the shipyard (click here for the boatyard website) is aimed not only at boat enthusiasts and potential customers, but also at people considering a career in boatbuilding. The shipyard invites interested boatbuilding apprentices and trainees to find out about training and work opportunities in the Schlei region. The shipyard is thus offering a platform for young professionals and emphasising its role as an employer in the region. The event makes it possible to talk directly to skilled workers and obtain first-hand information about the boatbuilding profession.
