The number of entries is constant, the yachts and their provenances are once again high-calibre. And yet there are some changes for the 29th edition of the Superyacht Cup Palma (SYC). From 25 to 28 June 2025, the Bay of Palma will be the venue for Europe's oldest superyacht regatta and four Baltic 68 Café Racer offer a stage. The 21-metre yachts from Finland will compete against each other in a separate classification. Baltic Yachts 2021 "Pink Gin Verde", developed by Mallorcan Javier Jaudenes with and for shipyard majority owner Hans Georg Näder. Her motto: simply sail fast and look good at the same time.
While the first Baltic 68 Café Racer relied on sustainable construction materials such as flax fibres, electric drives and range extender technology, "Open Season" was significantly more performance-optimised with a sprint carbon hull and prepreg Nomex deck. With a displacement of 20.6 tonnes, it is almost two tonnes lighter than "Pink Gin Verde" and, unlike its twin-rudder sister, is equipped with a single rudder.
The third café racer delivered by Baltic was "Ganesha", all in light blue and, like her sisters, managed by a German. Baltic's latest construction number 4, "Scorpione Hormar", will also be racing off Mallorca. The name "Café Racer" is reminiscent of a subculture in England in the early 1960s, when highly customised motorbikes reduced to the essential technical elements enjoyed cult status in the semi-tough rocker scene. The four Baltic 68 Café Racers will set off for their first joint training races on Tuesday before the first race starts on Thursday.
Three Truly Classic 128s also form a separate group. "Linnea Aurora" a sister of "Vijonara" The new boat can be easily recognised by the missing bowsprit. At 42 metres, "Vijonara" is the longest participant and completes the class together with the first Truly Classic 128 "Atalante". The organisers are also delighted that the 24-metre Y8 "Sveam" will be making her regatta debut and sailing against the 39-metre Tripp design "Cervo". In addition, there are the two Farr designs: the SYC newcomer "Gelliceaux" from Southern Wind and the defending champion "Rose". The 24 metre long Wally 80 is aiming for her third SYC victory in a row...
Organiser Kate Branagh is delighted with the development: "We are delighted that so many fantastic yachts are coming to our new event partner, Club de Mar Mallorca, to take part in the regatta." She emphasises the aim of the Superyacht Cup Palma not only to offer great sailing in the bay of Palma, but also to create an equally lively programme on land.
