5.5 GER 123 “Fortuna” – das Boot kann für die kommende Regattasaison ausgeliehen werden
Anyone wishing to sail in 5.5 regattas next year can apply for a loan boat from the class association. This is intended to promote young talent

The German 5.5 Class Association is making the boat GER 123 "Fortuna" available for the coming season. The loan is subject to a number of conditions, as it is linked to the hope of attracting young talent to the class. A team aged between 18 and 35 should therefore apply - the racing crew of the boats consists of three people - that wants to actively train for regattas and take part in as many as possible. The decisive factor for the award is the submitted utilisation concept and the willingness to participate in class regattas.

The "Fortuna" is an Evolution boat, which means that it was built between 1970 and 1993. All older boats belong to the Classic category, all newer ones to the Modern category. The regattas in the International 5.5 metre class are started together, but the prize-giving also allows for winners in all categories.

5.5 Series: modern class with tradition

For over 70 years, regatta boats have been built according to the metre formula developed by Charles E. Nicholson, and many big names from the regatta scene have been and still are to be found in the results lists. In recent years, the local fleet has developed into one of the most active scenes in the world.

As one of the few metre classes, the 5.5s constantly offer design innovations. Thanks to careful adaptation of the building regulations, the latest boats reflect the yacht building developments of their time.

Crews who are not yet sure whether the class is right for them also have the option of arranging a trial sail in a local sailing area via the class association at any time.
