A selection of the best 80 sailing images of the year, including all German entries
The international jury of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award has selected the 80 best sailing images of the year. The creators of the sometimes unbelievable images include seven German photographers, who now have the chance to win the coveted title

The annual Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award is now in its 14th edition. To kick off the prestigious competition, the organisers have today published their shortlist of the 80 best sailing images of the year. Anyone can now vote for their favourites free of charge and without registration as part of the Public Awards. Vote. Voting will remain open until 8 November.

The selection process for the main prize is also progressing in parallel. A total of 144 photographers from 30 countries worldwide have submitted their best picture taken between 10 October 2022 and 8 October 2023. Seven German photographers, among others, have made it onto the shortlist. In addition to Tobias Stoerkle, Felix Kling, Christian Gossmann, Sascha Klahn, Christian Beeck and Felix Diemer, last year's runner-up Eike Schurr was also included. The latter sent in a picture of Boris Herrmann's flying "Malizia - Seaexplorer", taken at the Ocean Race Fly-by in Kiel.

Winners of the photo competition will be honoured in November

The competition decision-makers now have around a month to quarter the selection once again. The 20 best images will then be exhibited during the World Sailing annual conference from 13 to 18 November and at the Mets equipment fair in Amsterdam (15 to 17 November). Delegates at both events will also be able to vote for the third prize in the competition: the Delegates Award.

The final winners of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award 2023 will be announced on 16 November at a special reception on the Mets in front of representatives of the international marine industry and yacht photographers from around the world.

Launched in 2010, the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award brings together the best yacht photographers in the world. No fewer than 150 photographers from 29 countries entered a picture for the award in 2022. The winner at the time was Spanish photographer Nico Martinez. The black and white image he submitted was taken during the TP52 World Championship in Cascais. The international jury voted unanimously in favour of Martinez, who is now part of the six-member panel himself.

As a great admirer of yacht and sports portrait photography, she is very proud of her nomination to the jury of the Mirabaud photo competition and is looking forward to the tough decisions. "This is great photo cinema! I can only recommend everyone to enter the visually stunning world of international yacht sports photographers and go on a journey through the past year with the photos. Magical moments, unique scenes and fantastic performances really come alive once again. Chapeau to the photo artists!"
