Lake Constance, also known as the Swabian Sea, is a body of water located in the border triangle between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With an area of around 536 square kilometres, Lake Constance is one of the largest inland lakes in Europe and is also a popular sailing area.
There are numerous sailing clubs and harbours along the Swabian Sea. Here you can find moorings, slipways, sailing schools and also hire sailing boats. The local sailing clubs also organise regattas and sailing events where sailors can put their skills to the test.
Explore the surrounding towns from the water: You can sail along the coast in a sailing boat. The towns of Constance, Lindau, Meersburg and Bregenz can also be reached from the water.
There are open waters for challenging sailing as well as sheltered bays and harbours for beginners. The three main areas of the lake - Obersee, Untersee and Überlinger See - offer different conditions and landscapes, so there is something for every type of sailor. This also applies to the sailors of the International Lake Constance Week or the World Championship of the Eights ...
At the port of Constance, the nine-metre-high Imperia watches over the water level of the lake - there is a measuring station in its base. The controversial figure has been the town's landmark since 1993. The harbour backdrop is reflected in the window of the time-honoured Lindau Sailing Club at dusk
Patience is often required on Lake Constance. This is also the case on board this 45 national cruiser during the International Lake Constance Week. Its crew travelled from Lake Starnberg in the classic boat especially to take part in the popular regatta event
In addition to the nationals, archipelago cruisers and metre yachts are also strongly represented on Lake Constance. In many classes, participants in high-calibre regattas come from far and wide, such as the Canadian "Raven" at the 2018 World Championships for Eights
When the International Lake Constance Week takes place in Constance, the local owners have to clear the harbour for the classics. The resulting views are like travelling back in time to the early days of sailing. The tense atmosphere before the races remains the same
The Lacustre was created on the drawing board of bronze medallist Henri Copponex and spread from Lake Geneva to the entire Alpine region. Today, it also characterises the image of Lake Constance. Around 170 of the 265 registered boats are moored here
During the World Eight Championships, the "Wyvern" sails on the typical green waters of the lake against an alpine backdrop. The historic bathhouse on the lakeshore is located in the fashionable climatic health resort of Wasserburg. To this day, it symbolises the long-gone beginnings of bathing culture
