The Orca system from Norway offers electronic nautical charts with a special focus on automatic route generation. The Orca Core is connected to the NMEA 2000 bus and thus receives the sensor data. The device also receives weather data via an internet connection, which is taken into account during routing. The system was launched in 2021. The Norwegian company is now marketing the new Orca Display 2, which is said to have the advantage that it is not tied to a fixed location like a plotter, but can be used on the move like a tablet. Nevertheless, it should be as easy to read as a plotter in the sunshine. The display now comes with better resolution and brightness, more computing power and wireless charging technology. The battery should last for eight hours of navigation without charging. The new display will be available from April for 999 euros, the Orca-Core costs 449 euros.
KC Power offers lithium supply batteries with particularly small dimensions for on-board use. The smallest model with a capacity of 100 ampere hours measures just 319 x 174 x 185 millimetres. The version with 200 ampere hours measures just 350 x 213 x 178 millimetres. The former costs 980 euros, the larger lithium iron phosphate battery 1,980 euros.
The Munich-based company Molabo (formerly Volabo) has a compact and, at 50 kW, very powerful electric drive for boats in its programme. Installation is now easier with the new MolaConnect Box. The box contains components such as chargers, relays and fuses, so that only cables need to be connected to the motor and battery for installation. Price: 5,618 euros.
