With the launch of the X 4.9 in 2018, the Pure range from X-Yachts made its breakthrough on the global yacht market. It was the third model in the new, upmarket line from the yacht builder in Haderslev and has become a success. To date, more than 50 X 4.9 boats have been built and sold.
The X-Yachts design team has now thoroughly reworked the construction and appearance and improved the concept in many details. Thomas Mielec, Head of X-Yachts Design & Engineering, explains: "The revision of the X 4.9 to the MKII version is a natural development that incorporates the experience and visual appearance of the X 5.6 and X 4.3 MKII. And we have even further developed and improved the design beyond these models."
The cockpit layout in particular has been revised. The coamings now extend almost all the way to the stern, improving the steering position both when seated and standing. In addition, the fold-out footrest has been made larger and wider, just as it is on the X 5.6. In addition, sail handling has been made easier by optimising the positioning of the winches and comfort for fellow sailors has been improved by significantly longer dikes.
The characteristic S-bow, which was first introduced with the X 5.6 and is intended to characterise the look of the new models, enables a longer bowsprit made of carbon fibre for better performance under gennaker or code zero. The bow nose is also equipped with an integrated stainless steel anchor arm as standard.
The shipyard has also extensively revised the construction of the hull and deck. Overall, the Danes have been able to reduce the overall weight and further lower the centre of gravity with numerous structural measures. In combination with a larger downwind sail area, the X 4.9 MKll should therefore be able to offer even better overall performance than its predecessor. What's more, the designers at X-Yachts have also redesigned the long and slim single rudder. The new profile now has an optimised inflow and the drag can be reduced.
Below deck, the cabins aft and the owner's area forward have been redesigned. However, these are only minor visual refreshments and stylistic details. All hatches on deck are now completely flush and without visible hinges. And the hatches have also been made larger. This improves ventilation below deck and allows around 50 per cent more light into the cabins.
The MKII version of the X 4.9 will also be available with two optional side-mounted electric drives from Oceanvolt, each with an output of 10 kW. However, a four-cylinder built-in diesel engine with an output of either 57 or 80 hp is standard.
X-Yachts Deutschland from Christoph Barth in Flensburg quotes a base price of 696,000 euros net for the new X 4.9 MKII. Including 19% VAT, the base price is 828,240 euros. The first five build numbers are offered at an introductory price of 808,000 euros.
