This marks the retirement of its predecessor, the popular Hanse 418. It arrived in 2018 as a complete overhaul of the Hanse 415, which in turn was launched in 2012. After more than ten years on the market, the Judel/Vrolijk & Co design has now had its day.
The Berret-Racoupeau office in France was once again commissioned to design the new ship for the important twelve-metre class. The French company had already supplied the construction plans as well as the exterior and interior design for the Hanse 460 (test YACHT 1/2022) and 510 (YACHT 1/2023) models. And with great success: the Hanse 460 was the first boat of the new model generation to win the coveted European Yacht of the Year award in the cruising yacht category. The new 410 is now following suit with a great deal of visual and conceptual fidelity to the line. The only difference is that the hull is now even more voluminous. With a length of 11.99 metres, the boat is now an impressive 4.29 metres wide. This corresponds to an aspect ratio of just under 2.8, whereas previously a value of 3.0 was considered "normal" for cruising boats.
The designers at Berret-Racoupeau and the developers at Hanse have largely adopted the design on deck and in the cockpit from the larger models. This means: flat cabin superstructure, large cockpit with two variable tables, semi-open stern with folding seats for the helmsman and a consistent return of all sheets, halyards and trim lines on both sides to the steering positions. The Hanse 410 is equipped with a self-tacking jib and a conventional mainsail with a pinhead as standard, with the sails coming from Elvstrøm Sails. A furling mainsail is available as an option, as is an overlapping genoa with hoisting points on the side of the running deck. In contrast to the larger Hanse 460, however, the new 410 no longer offers a sail load in the foredeck. Large storage compartments in the aft peak are available for additional sails, fenders, mooring lines and other larger items. There is also a separate storage compartment at the stern especially for the life raft.
Below deck, the design and expansion options are more varied compared to the larger models. In the new 410, for example, the galley is no longer built into the saloon as a long element, but is positioned in a generously designed L-shape at the companionway. This leaves more space in the saloon for a second sofa on the starboard side, which can also be useful as an additional berth. The seating area around the large saloon table offers space for at least five people and can also be converted into a sunbathing area thanks to the lowerable table.
The buyer of a Hanse 410 can choose whether to have a second wet room in the spacious owner's cabin. On the larger 460, the foredeck can also be fitted with two double cabins, each with its own toilet room, which is particularly interesting for use in yacht charters. This option is generally no longer available for the boats in the smaller eleven-metre class, including the new 410. However, there is a variation for the aft configuration: Either two symmetrical aft cabins or one cabin plus a large and accessible forecastle, which can be accessed either directly from the cockpit or from the inside through a door, are possible.
The new Hanse 410 is specified with a built-in diesel engine from Yanmar with 39 hp, Saildrive propulsion and a two-blade fixed pitch propeller. A larger machine with 56 hp is also feasible. And: As an alternative to the built-in diesel, Hanse offers the 410 with an electric drive. Hanse will also offer a solution with a fuel cell to generate electricity on board.
The full price list for the new Hanse 410 is not yet available. But there is a basic price ex shipyard. This is 299,760 euros gross including 19 % VAT.
The prototype of the new Hanse 410 model has apparently already been completed and is currently undergoing extensive testing at the shipyard in Greifswald. The YACHT editorial team will also be putting the new yacht to the test soon. The detailed test report is already planned for issue 19/2023. This issue will be published at the beginning of September.
