Patagonia calls it a "weather jacket for long, demanding ocean crossings", placing its new jacket and trousers in the offshore category. The Big Water Foul Weather Jacket has a high collar, an adjustable hood, plenty of pockets and reinforcements on the sleeves and back and double cuffs. There is also a waterproof zip and fleece-lined heat pockets to keep your hands warm in uncomfortable weather. In addition, two large reflective strips over the shoulders ensure good visibility at night.
The fabric is a 4-layer outer fabric called H2No Performance Standard by the manufacturer. The material is called NetPlus. The name refers to the origin of the recycled nylon: it is made from old fishing nets collected from the sea and is intended to help reduce marine pollution.
The Big Water Foul Weather Bibs have two breast pockets and plenty of freedom of movement. This is also where the adjustable ankle cuffs come in, which can be fastened particularly tightly and are optimised for barefoot use. Large reinforcements on the legs and seat protect the breathable fabric. Here too, 100% recycled nylon fibre from old fishing nets is used.
The textiles are also Bluesign-certified and are produced in Fair Trade labelled factories in Vietnam. A PFC-free product is used as an impregnation. Patagonia's new oilskins are only available in the Storm Yellow colour shown here. Sizes range from XS to XXL, both in the women's cut and the men's version. Price: jacket 650, trousers 550 euros.
