Outremer, the French manufacturer of ocean-going and particularly powerful catamarans, has a new 52 at the start. YACHT was on board after the premiere at the multihull trade fair in La Grande-Motte in France. The first photos of the test run in the gallery

The very sporty concept and the weight-reduced design ensure rapid progress and active sailing fun even in light winds. For multihulls and long distances in particular, this means longer sailing with less engine power. Owners can determine the performance potential of their Outremer 52 themselves in expansion stages. For example, the boat can be equipped with a normal standard rig or a higher, rotating carbon fibre profile wing mast. You can also choose between a genoa and a self-tacking jib. And: with additional sails such as a gennaker or spinnaker, the wardrobe can be further extended for all possible uses and wind strengths.

Strong performance in the test

In the YACHT test off La Grande-Motte in the south of France, the Outremer 52 gave an impressive demonstration of its performance. Even in a moderate sea breeze of around 10 to 12 knots, the lightweight with performance rig easily achieves double-digit speeds at half wind with the larger genoa. The cat is steered on the hulls, either with a tiller or steering wheels. The Outremer 52 can also be steered directly from the cockpit, with good visibility through the all-round glazed cabin superstructure. This is made possible by swivelling steering columns. The helmsman can therefore choose between a perfect view in the direction of travel or into the sails or a comfortable steering position protected by the cockpit bulkhead and bimini.

Despite its sporty character, the Outremer 52 is also suitable for leisurely tours and long cruises on the high seas. Despite the slender hulls, which are rather small in volume compared to cruising catamarans, the ship's concept makes few concessions in terms of cosiness and comfort. The customer chooses whether the catamaran is to be equipped with three or four cabins. In addition, the interior can be highly customised. For example, the foredeck on the port side can be converted into a walk-in wardrobe, an office or a workshop.
