In Hall 15 at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf, one boat in particular stands out visually: the new P30 from Aeolos Yachts. The extravagant design is polarising and the exciting concept makes a visit to the stand essential - and not just for regatta sailors

The composite specialists at Aeolos Yachts, based in the United Arab Emirates, have surprised us with their P30. The extraordinary construction by shipyard owner and brand boss Hans Genthe is striking, and not just because of its unprecedented design. The P30 is built as the ultimate performance boat, optimised for sailing in single and double-handed mode or with a crew. The boat was also unconditionally designed for the most favourable measurement handicap possible according to ORC or IRC.

With a lifting keel and a retractable rudder with cassette guide, the boat is easy to trailer and also fits easily into a 40-foot container for longer journeys. What's more, the mast can be split in half. What's more, the long carbon bowsprit can be easily folded up not only for transport, but also in the harbour. For motorisation, there is a choice of various solutions for outboard or shaft motors, either as combustion engines or with electric drives.

Performance and sport are at the centre of the concept

The P30 is equipped with a high and powerful carbon fibre rig from Pauger with rod shrouds. It is fitted with a slim mainsail with a wide top boom and a short overlapping genoa. The headsail can be trimmed using the very efficient, transversely adjustable 3D haul points. The large gennaker with an area of 110.0 square metres is set from a launcher, i.e. from a closable hole in the foredeck with a long uphaul below deck.

The P30 is built by Aeolos Yachts in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, entirely in carbon fibre sandwich (epoxy/vacuum prepreg). Hans Genthe quotes a current base price of 128,000 US dollars. At the current exchange rate, this corresponds to a base price for customers in Europe of 118,000 euros net, or 140,400 euros including 19% VAT. However, the sails are not yet included in the price.

The Aeolos P30 can be seen until tomorrow, Sunday evening, 29 January, at the boot trade fair in Düsseldorf in Hall 15 (Stand E 43).
