Finally out! Royal Huisman announces the transfer of the modern 65-metre classic to Amsterdam. Project 408 "Aquarius II" has been in the hall at the Vollenhoven shipyard since the hull was turned in March 2023. The ketch is the successor to the first "Aquarius", which the Dutch delivered in 2018.

Why a new one? The owners found their 56-metre ketch to be "almost perfect" - the sailing-enthusiastic couple simply wanted a larger yacht with even more power and ordered the big sister "Aquarius", number two, from the same shipyard.

For the Dutch superyacht professionals, it is a great compliment when owners appreciate their yacht so much that the only change is a larger version built by exactly the same team. In addition to the shipyard, this includes the project manager and owner's representative Godfrey Cray, the designers from Dykstra Naval Architects and the interior designer Mark Whiteley.

There is still a lot to do before "Aquarius" is delivered

Compared to the first "Aquarius", which now sails as the "Apsara", the new boat has 45 per cent more volume and offers larger social and crew areas, improved sail handling and a lifting fin keel for optimum performance. The lightweight Alustar® aluminium construction creates the basis for high-performance sailing, while the semi-hybrid drive reflects the focus on sustainability.

After arriving in Amsterdam, the final phases of the "Aquarius" project are on the agenda: launching and setting the Rondal masts and carbon booms, followed by sea trials and, of course, delivery.
