With a length of 142.81 metres, the three-masted giant "Sailing Yacht A" built by German Naval Yards in Kiel remains in first place in the current Top 200 ranking of our sister magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV. The ranking, which is published every two years, lists twelve new entries, including one very special one: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' 125-metre-long "Koru" not only takes 2nd place, but also secures the title of the largest private yacht ever built in the Netherlands. The ranking of the world's largest motor yachts followed in summer 2024

Whether elegant sailing yacht or luxurious motor yacht: every water sports enthusiast dreams of marvelling at the giants on the world's oceans. Our sister magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV presents a ranking of the 10 largest and most impressive motor yachts in the world. The exciting stories behind these spectacular ships:

Top 200 ranking of the largest sailing yachts in the world

The last Top 200 ranking of the world's largest sailing yachts was published two years ago. The market for sailing superlatives is generally less dynamic than that for large motor yachts, but there are still twelve new entries. That is four more new entries than two years ago. Five of the sailing newcomers have reserved themselves a place in the top 100, with one right at the top of the winners' podium: "Koru", Jeff Bezos' newly commissioned superyacht, has slipped between "A" and "Black Pearl" at 125 metres.

The "A" (142.81 metres and 12,600 gross tons), which remains in pole position, has an underwater lounge in the keel, four tenders and a mini-submarine. The carbon fibre masts, which rise almost 100 metres into the sky, are fitted with 4,500 square metres of sails, the equivalent of more than half a football pitch. This year, the "Black Pearl" (106 metres) took third place, followed by "Eos" (92.92 metres) in fourth place and "Athena" (90 metres) in fifth place.

Ships from Perini Navi included 32 times

To be listed in the new top 200 ranking, a minimum length of 41 metres was required. A closer look at the hit list quickly reveals that 32 sailing yachts from the Italian shipyard Perini Navi alone are among the top 100. The longest is still "Maltese Falcon" - in sixth place at 88 metres. The others are in the 50 to 60 metre range, led by the famous 56-metre line from Ron Holland. The newcomers up to 100th place also include two motorsailers from Croatia: "Clase Azul" and "Anima Maris" rank just over 48 metres and are in 95th and 98th place respectively. They were developed and built with the aim of transporting charter guests across the Adriatic in style.

Information on length, shipyard, designer and sail area is spread over almost 30 pages of research in the new issue of BOOTE EXCLUSIV.

Superyachts under sail are on the rise

The magazine also provides an exciting outlook on "what's coming soon". E-drives and solar panels, which feed powerful battery banks, are also on the rise in sailing superyachts. Experienced owners are building bigger, while young owners are getting in on the action. Wind-powered propulsion fits in with the times, and specialised shipyards are working at full capacity. As numerous shipyards report, sustainability is increasingly at the top of the owners' list of priorities. "And how could you travel in a more energy- and resource-efficient way than purely with the power of the wind? So there is a good reason why the demand for sailing large formats has increased in recent years," confirms BOOTE EXCLUSIV editor-in-chief Martin Hager.

The diverse world of the largest sailing yachts is explored in detail in the new issue of BOOTE EXCLUSIV 5/2023 - on sale from 30 August 2023 for 12.90 euros.
