The eight-berth sloop is being built for a family that plans to sail around the world as well as regattas. The sleek lines and rig follow the philosophy of Dykstra Studio, which combines a timeless look with modern naval architecture. 100 metre concept.
The goal is a displacement of 230 tonnes with a gross tonnage of 253. A lifting keel extends the draught from 4.5 to 6.9 metres, while the mast, which is almost 62.5 metres high - the Panamax limit - carries a total sail area of 1,200 square metres. The sail plan itself comprises a square sail that is reefed by a slab boom system.
"The design features a cutter-inspired hull shape with a generous stern overhang. This gives the yacht a dynamic yet timeless profile under sail," says Mark Leslie-Miller of Dykstra Naval Architects. The deck layout, woodwork and panelling are inspired by the golden age of sailing at the beginning of the 20th century.
The yacht is designed for comfortable cruising over long distances as well as for use on the international regatta stage, according to the Amsterdam design office. This involves events such as the St Barths Bucket, a test of strength for large sailing yachts in the Caribbean.
The realisation of the Dykstra project is in the hands of established Dutch companies. Vitters Shipyard specialises in high-quality sailing yachts and has the corresponding production capacities. The Slup will be built as "Project SY 07".
Vripack Design is responsible for the interior design: "The customer wanted an interior based on the traditional style of classic sailing yachts from the 1920s and 30s, but reinterpreted for today. Re-interpreting does not mean copying," emphasises Marnix J. Hoekstra, Creative Director at Vripack.
Van Ineveld & Co act as the owner's representative, coordinating the various trades and monitoring both the schedule and the budget.
The keel of SY 07 will be laid in January 2027, with delivery scheduled for early February 2029. The yacht will be built according to Lloyd's Classification and will sail under the flag of the Cayman Islands.
