Test Saare 47
The new flagship of the Baltic manufacturer has arrived at the shipyard boss Thomas Nielsen in Eckernförde. First impressions of the YACHT test of the Saare 47

Closed stern with steps and electrically extendable bathing platform, deep centre cockpit with fixed windscreen, moulded rubbing strake and a rather high superstructure: The new Saare 47 has a traditional, or let's say timeless, but in any case pleasing appearance. The design by Finn Karl-Johan Strahlmann was created at Saare Yachts, which former dealer Thomas Nielsen took over years ago and developed further. The Baltic shipyard used to build for Finngulf on the island of Saaremaa, where a broad-based boatbuilding cluster works for various well-known shipyards, from mould making to stainless steel processing.

Great pleasure in wheel and winches

YACHT has already tested the boat; the report will be published soon. However, the conditions were anything but ideal, with a brutally short and steep wave in 15 to 19 knots of wind pushing into Eckernförde Bay and preventing speeds of over six and a half knots at the cross. Nevertheless, the boat mastered the stumbling blocks with ease and was still comfortable to steer, although a certain resistance could certainly be felt due to the various deflections of the propeller shaft from the centre cockpit to the stern. When the Saare dropped to 60 degrees to the wind and lower, it showed what it was made of: confidence and speed, eight to nine knots even over longer periods of time and full control are no problem. It sails dry and sits well on the wave without any tendency to push the bow into the water. It is also fun to handle: equipped with Selden's tried-and-tested furling mast, a recessed Furlex furling system, Elvström's new Xylo filament membrane and powerful electric winches from Harken, it leaves nothing to be desired

Saare 47 celebrates its world premiere in Düsseldorf

The good impression continues below deck. In keeping with the exterior appearance, the interior in Kaya mahogany or oak veneers is also very traditional. The layout is optimised for four people. The owner's area of the Saare is located in the stern, where a wide centre berth is installed and a large ensuite bathroom is available. Guests live forward, where there is a second wet room. A large full-length or half-split berth is possible there. The standard galley is not located in the passageway aft, as is usual on many centre cockpit yachts, but next to the companionway to starboard. The alternative is a galley to port and offset aft. The space freed up can then be utilised with a bunk bed cabin or a completely partitioned office space or generous navigation area.

The design of the Saare 47 and the components are top shelf. Without exception, the laminates are produced using vinyl ester resin in a vacuum infusion process. Doors and cabinet flaps are made from veneered Honeycombe foam panels, which provides an immense weight and strength advantage. The floor assembly is made of GRP and anchored in the ship with numerous angle laminates. The deck-hull connection and the bulkheads are fully laminated. The keel is made of lead. The high-quality and comprehensively equipped boat costs 984,203 euros including VAT.

The Saare 47 will celebrate its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf in January 2025.
