Black Pepper Yachts presented its first model called Code 0 in 2012 (test YACHT issue 20/2012). The Nantes-based shipyard has now completely relaunched the attractive weekender under the name Code 0.1. The design of the new hull now comes from the office of Marc Lombard Yacht Design. The plans for the previous model were drawn up by Naval Architect Romaric Neyhousser. Visually, the new and old models differ only slightly. The most striking new feature is the now completely open stern.
The Code 0.1 is built entirely from carbon fibre (carbon epoxy in a vacuum infusion process) and can be fitted with either a fixed keel (standard) or a swing keel as an option. It also has a high carbon fibre rig. Thanks to the standard self-tacking jib, manoeuvres are extremely easy, especially for solo sailors. Performance-oriented sailors, on the other hand, can have an additional traveller fitted for the mainsheet or have the option of a short overlapping genoa on hollow point rails on the side of the running deck. The wheel steering as on our test boat was only installed at the owner's special request. The standard version of the boat is supplied with a tiller.
The shipyard can fulfil individual customer wishes for the interior below deck. The owner of our test boat deliberately wanted a very reduced fit-out standard below deck, which fulfils the requirements for a short trip at the weekend, but nothing more. The price for the Code 0.1 from Black Pepper is high and is around 320,000 euros, gross including 19% VAT. However, the carbon fibre boat is very comprehensively and, above all, high-quality equipped right from the shipyard, including, as already mentioned, a carbon rig with rod shrouds.
The YACHT editorial team has already been on board the smart and powerful Frenchwoman for a test sail. The test report will be published in a forthcoming issue of YACHT. The first photos of the test run can be viewed in the gallery above.
Black Pepper Yachts is still a young brand, established by Michel Douville de Franssu. Within a short space of time, the enterprising Frenchman has launched a line of rather unusual and exclusive daysailers and weekenders with a retro-classic look, starting with the small Code # (YACHT 14/2017 test), followed by the larger models Code 0.1, Code 1, Code 2 and the over 25-metre-long Code 3. Five Imoca 60 ocean-going racing yachts have already been built at Black Pepper's production facility in Nantes, which specialises in carbon fibre construction. And: the shipyard is currently also working on the completion of a 21 metre long ocean-going catamaran under the type designation Code C.69.
