The larger VX One from Mackay Boats, a very sporty and powerful sports boat with a lifting keel and gennaker, has already proven to be a success. The boat (YACHT 8/2016 test) is sailed by a crew of two or three and has quickly become popular in unit classes not only in New Zealand, but also in America and Europe.
Now the Mackay Boats shipyard in Auckland has developed a smaller model, the new VX Two, which is designed without a keel but as a dinghy with a centreboard. The rudder is attached to the stern and is also hinged, as is usual for centreboard boats. The extendable bowsprit for the gennaker stands out due to its length. As with the larger VX, the almost 15 square metre additional sail for the fast room sheet courses is set with a single-line system from a so-called "launcher", a trumpet integrated in the foredeck. This makes setting and recovering the gennaker extremely easy.
The VX Two is also supplied with a mast and boom made of carbon fibre. The basic equipment also includes sails and a water carriage. The price for the ready-to-sail boat is around 26,000 euros, including 19% VAT. In January, the VX Two will be presented as a novelty at the Boot trade fair in Düsseldorf at the joint stand of Ovnington Boats and Mackay Boats in Hall 15.
