Its little brother, the Nautitech 44 Open, was honoured as Yacht of the Year in the Multihull category in 2023. The cat received the title for its excellent sailing characteristics and all-round harmonious touring concept, among other things. Following on from this success, the shipyard in Rochefort, which belongs to Bavaria Yachtbau, is now presenting the 48 Open, which is around 1.40 metres longer and almost 60 centimetres wider. Nautitech utilises the extra hull length for even more living comfort, especially in the saloon and with more individuality for the interior fittings.
Typical for the concept of the new model generation from Nautitech are two steering wheels, which are mounted far aft and recessed with a step towards the running deck. At the wheels, the helmsman stands at the very back, almost at the level of the stern platforms. And contrary to what one might expect, the view forwards and into the sails is perfect, of course also because the helmsman can switch from windward to leeward at will. All halyards, sheets and trim lines are elegantly routed over the roof and side decks directly to the helm stations. This makes the Nautitech concept absolutely suitable for single-handed sailing.
Nautitech offers a wide range of variants for the interior fittings in the hulls of the 48 Open. The boat is available with two, three or four double cabins, each with its own bathroom and shower compartment. The cabins in the foredeck of each hull can also be flexibly converted into a utility room, workshop or office, for example. A kind of "children's room" with plenty of space and bunk berths is also possible.
The Nautitech 48 Open costs 1.19 million euros in the well-equipped and high-quality basic version, gross incl. 19% VAT, including sails. The detailed test report will appear in YACHT 16/2024, which will be published as a "Multihull Special". The magazine will be available from newsagents from 24 July.
