The newly developed series is designed to combine high speeds with the necessary safety for ocean routes. Until now, the manufacturer Independent Catamaran was known for designing regatta catamarans that were trimmed for efficiency. The development of the Kairos series is now a step towards performance cruisers on three hulls.

Getting started with the Kairos 52

The Kairos 52 is the smallest yacht in the luxury trimaran series. The three-hull boat measures 15.85 metres in length, 10.90 metres in width and weighs 9.2 tonnes ready to sail. The trimaran comes with plenty of sail area: the mainsail measures 100 square metres and the genoa 59 square metres. A 125 square metre gennaker and a 210 square metre spinnaker are available for deeper courses.

Although the yachts are designed for high speeds, the Shipyard has opted for a minimalist regatta layout in the interior and integrated six to eight berths in the Kairos 52. Buyers also have various options for customising the deck layout or rigging together with the manufacturer.

Rig according to owner's wishes

The shipyard's semi-custom principle allows some of the boat's parameters to be customised to the customer's requirements. Owners are free to choose the entire deck layout, the winch systems and the clamps. The mast configuration can also be customised: The carbon fibre mast can be planned as either a fixed or rotating mast, depending on the crew's preference.

In order to keep the weight as low as possible, the hulls were manufactured from epoxy resin and carbon fibres using a vacuum infusion process. This should also ensure the necessary rigidity for use on the high seas. The trimaran can be equipped with either a 15 kW electric motor or a 57 hp diesel engine for longer trips.

Design

The platform was designed by Emilio D'OnofrioThe naval architect specialised in lightweight composite structures and the optimisation of multihulls at the University of Genoa. The design of the yachts has Lorenzo Guadagnucci developed. However, this commitment comes at a price: the Kairos range starts at around 2.4 million euros, depending on the equipment.
