The video lasts less than a minute, but it's full of drama: "The sail is broken!" "No, the boat has a hole." "Emergency on the other boat, six miles away." Scenes of crew members vomiting, the boat pitching through high waves or the crew tearing at sheets follow in staccato. What looks like the trailer for a blockbuster is actually the promotional video for "Mission Unknown: Atlantic".
It is the latest project from YouTuber and entertainer Knossi, whose real name is Jens Heinz Richard Knossalla. He is one of the most prominent personalities in the German streaming and gaming scene. The self-proclaimed "King of the Internet" became famous through internet videos in which he filmed himself playing computer games or online poker and other games of chance. He is now the face of a McDonald's advertising campaign, among other things. He also makes regular appearances in various TV and streaming shows.
His latest project starts today and is called "Mission Unknown: Atlantic". The idea behind it is easy to explain: ten celebrities compete against each other in two boats and sail across the Atlantic in ten episodes. During the journey, they have to complete various tasks. The participants have no special sailing skills or experience on the high seas, which is why experienced skippers are on board both boats.
And the adventure has already been in the can for a while, as you can see from the Instagram channel of the format can be seen. The two crews set off from the Cape Verde Islands in mid-November. From there, they sailed to the Caribbean for around two and a half weeks, reaching their destination at the end of November.
Viewers will find out how the crossing went from today, 28 February, when the first episodes can be seen on Amazon's streaming platform, Prime Video. The company has secured the rights to the first broadcast. Two weeks later, the episodes will also be available on the YouTube account of Knossi be published.
The participants are influencers, i.e. people with many followers on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, as well as other celebrities with a wide reach. These include Joey Kelly, fitness blogger Sophia Thiel, Marc Eggers and Affe auf Bike. They are particularly well-known and popular with the young target group.
This also applies to the format: the mix of adventure and reality is in high demand. This is proven by the success of the survival reality show "Seven vs. Wild" by web video producer Fritz Meinecke. In this show, influencers and internet personalities are sent into the wilderness where they have to survive for several days and weeks. The participants film their experiences themselves using small GoPro cameras. Each episode of the four seasons so far has been viewed several million times on YouTube. Knossi himself took part in the second and third seasons of "Seven vs Wild".
Mission Unknown: Atlantic" was produced by a Banijay Germany GmbH production company. The media company produces programmes such as "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire", "TV Total", "The Masked Singer" and numerous reality TV formats. These include "Promi Big Brother", "Temptation Island" and "Kampf der Realitystars".
