At the narrowest point of the Schlei, near Rabelsund, this inlet of the Baltic Sea is just 300 metres wide. Water sports enthusiasts should expect restrictions here until 12 August.
​The Schlei is currently closed at times near Rabelsund. According to a notice to mariners issued by the WSA Ostsee, work on the high-voltage power lines is being carried out there until 12 August 2026.

​The closures do not apply continuously, but on specific days at set times. Skippers in the area must follow the instructions of the patrol vessels.

The planned closure times on the Schlei

The works will affect the section of high-voltage power lines over the Schlei near Rabelsund. According to WSA Ostsee, the following closure periods are scheduled for the coming days:

  • 5 August 2026, 8.00 am to 12.00 pm
  • 6 August 2026, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm
  • 10 August 2026, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm
  • 11 August 2026, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm
  • 12 August 2026, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm

Access permitted only during closure periods

Following the announcement, the actual restrictions will depend on the progress of the works. During the closures, short breaks will be introduced to allow vessels to pass beneath the high-voltage power lines. In practice, this means that anyone wishing to pass through the area must expect waiting times on site and be prepared for closures to be lifted at short notice. The WSA points out that adverse circumstances may lead to postponements of the closures or changes to the closure times.
