Oil tankers and containers instead of other superyachts: Jeff Bezos had to moor his 125-metre-long "Koru" in an industrial port in Florida because the schooner does not fit into the marina

As reported by the "New York Times" and "Der Spiegel", among others, the "Koru" had to move to the seaport in Port Everglades instead of mooring in the dignified yacht area. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' 125-metre-long schooner is now moored between cranes and containers on a rather unadorned concrete pier, as can be seen in the pictures. A spokeswoman for the harbour in Miami is quoted as saying that the ship was moored there "because of its size and also because of the berths available".

In addition to the "Koru", Jeff Bezos' fleet also includes the 76-metre-long supply vessel "Abeona". YACHT's sister magazine BOOTE EXCLUSIV first spotted the unit in spring on the pier of the Club de Mar off Palma de Mallorca and then at anchor at the Cannes Film Festival. At that time, the longest yacht ever built in the Netherlands was also seen under sail for the first time. In the current ranking of the largest sailing yachts in the world, the "Koru" is in second place.

More about the Jeff Bezos yacht:

The dimensions of the "Koru" were already beyond the scope once: In Rotterdam, the famous Koningshaven Bridge was to be temporarily dismantled so that the ship could move from the shipyard in the hinterland to the open sea after construction. After vociferous protests from the local population, the hull was then moved to another shipyard without the masts in a cloak-and-dagger operation via side channels. The masts came separately afterwards and were only placed on the other side of the bridge.

With figurehead and water cannons

In Maori, the language of New Zealand's indigenous people, "Koru" means "new beginning". This is fitting as Bezos is said to have proposed to his partner Lauren Sánchez on board. The figurehead of the three-masted gaff schooner curiously resembles the former journalist and pilot. But final doubts remain as to whether the US billionaire was carried away by such a clumsy gesture.

Apparently, the Amazon founder does not want to sail exclusively in the northern Mediterranean or the Caribbean, otherwise he would not have insisted on the installation of water cannons to ward off pirate attacks. The pictures clearly show the installations on the side.
