A motorboat caught fire on Friday afternoon at the Langenargen marina on Lake Constance. The fire brigade extinguished the fire and prevented the flames from spreading to neighbouring boats or the jetty. No one was injured.

The fire on the motorboat in Langenargen was reported to the fire brigade on Friday, 10 July 2026, at around 2.19 pm. According to their own accounts, the emergency services could already see thick smoke rising above the marina whilst en route. On arrival, the motorboat, which was moored at the jetty, was completely engulfed in flames.

According to the police operations headquarters, no one was on board at the time. No other people were injured in the fire either.

Fire brigade prevents the fire from spreading to other boats

Several teams, wearing heavy breathing apparatus, tackled the flames. According to the fire service, the fire was quickly extinguished. Crucially, despite its immediate proximity to other moorings, the fire did not spread to neighbouring boats or to the jetty.

As pictures from the scene show, the motorboat was severely damaged by the fire. No official estimate of the damage has yet been released. Nor are there any conclusive findings regarding the cause of the fire. The water police were on the scene with officers from Langenargen and Friedrichshafen.

Oil booms secure the harbour basin

Right from the start of the operation, the fire brigade called in the oil spill response team from Friedrichshafen as a precaution. Oil booms were deployed around the stricken vessel. These were intended to prevent any fuel or other operating fluids that might leak from entering the harbour basin and spreading into Lake Constance.

Once the fire-fighting operations were complete, the emergency services towed the burnt-out motorboat to the harbour crane, where it was lifted out of the water. According to the fire service, there was no risk to Lake Constance, which is used as a drinking water reservoir.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation

It is not yet clear whether the fire broke out in the engine compartment, the electrical system or another part of the boat. It is therefore not possible to identify a technical cause based on the current state of the investigation.

As early as 2023, there was an incident at Langenargen Marina Battery fire on a Bente 24 arrived.
