Dramatic accident on Lake Constance near Hagnau: Both the fast ferry "Constanze" and the sailing yacht were travelling from Constance towards Friedrichshafen last Friday at around 5.15 pm. For reasons as yet unexplained, the skipper of the ferry overlooked the Faurby and rammed her with the port side. The two crew members, a 64-year-old woman and her 69-year-old husband, were thrown overboard by the impact. The Faurby broke up and sank. The crew of the ferry rescued the two sailors and took them on board; both were only slightly injured. Material damage totalling 155,000 euros was caused - the sunken sailing yacht alone is worth around 150,000 euros.
The Friedrichshafen waterway police are now investigating the skipper of the ferry for endangering shipping traffic.
