The Superyacht Cup Palma (SYC) returns to its former glory with its 30th edition. From 24 to 28 June, 20 classic and contemporary superyachts will gather in the Bay of Palma to compete against one another in five different classes. Europe’s oldest superyacht regatta will be based at the Club de Mar, which has now been fully refurbished.
The event combines top-class regatta racing with the informal, owner-focused atmosphere that has characterised it for three decades. “We are absolutely delighted to welcome so many entries for our 30th anniversary,” says Event Director Kate Branagh. The Club de Mar-Mallorca is enabling a new layout for the regatta village, in which all yachts will once again be moored stern-to-stern alongside the main marquee. According to Branagh, this will recreate the atmosphere and the fantastic dockside party vibe of years gone by.
Two new classes mark the next stage in the development of this long-standing event. For the first time in its 30-year history, multihulls will compete in their own class. The four exceptional catamarans – “Allegra”, “Gaea”, “Highland Fling 18” and “Layla” – will each have their own start, with top-class sailors on board. At the same time, a dedicated YYachts division is being established with six entrants, which differs from the superyacht classes in having shorter start intervals: whilst there are two-minute intervals between starts in those classes, the yachts from the Greifswald shipyard will take to the course at intervals of just 60 seconds. Three Tripp Designs are taking part – the 23.80-metre-long Y7 “Lucid” and “Distancia”, as well as the 29.71-metre-long Y9 “Bella”. Joining them is the 23.80-metre-long Judel/Vrolijk-Y7 “Beati”, the Brenta 80 “Makai” and the Y8 “Calabash”, both 25.99 metres long.
The J-Class yachts “Rainbow” and “Svea” form a familiar duo competing against each other in their own class. Both will sail a dedicated up-and-down course, where they will engage in their traditional neck-and-neck duels. Several familiar names are returning to the superyacht classes. The two-time winner “Win Win” is keen to prove that it lives up to its name. Also back on the starting line are the XXL Oyster “Archelon”, the 39-metre-long Tripp-designed “Cervo” and the 27-metre Hoek-designed “Atalante 1”, which is sailing under new ownership. Among the debutants is the 58-metre-long Perini Navi ketch “Burrasca”, designed by Ron Holland. The elegant 30.9-metre-long Wally “Inco” is also making its SYC debut. From Nautor Swan come the 30.5-metre Swan 100 “Point Counter Point” and the Swan 88 “Spiip”.
The Y8 “Calabash”, designed by the Mallorcan designer Javier Jaudenes and owned by YYachts, is the only returning yacht in the YYachts class following its debut in 2024. YYachts itself is one of the “Friends of The Superyacht Cup Palma Richard Mille” and is celebrating its tenth anniversary at the same time. Several event partners and sponsors are also marking significant anniversaries. Title sponsor Richard Mille and Carbo-Link are celebrating their 25th anniversary, Marinepool is marking 35 years, and Hoek is celebrating its 40th anniversary. These parallel milestones underscore the long-standing partnerships that have shaped the Superyacht Cup Palma Richard Mille over three decades.
The event begins on Wednesday 24 June with registration, safety and skippers’ briefings, and a welcome cocktail party at the dock. The first day of racing follows on Thursday 25 June with the Pantaenius Race. That same evening, the 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner for owners will take place at the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca. The 30th Anniversary Race on Friday and the St. Regis Race on Saturday round off the sporting programme. The Bay of Palma is regarded as a reliable sailing area with consistent conditions, which has made it the preferred venue for three decades.
