Just before the season begins, it's time to set sail and cross oceans - at least in your mind and on the big screen. From 3 March 2020, the International Ocean Film Tour will once again be presenting films about fascinating water sports enthusiasts who have achieved great things with great passion on its tour through Germany and 13 other countries.
Around the world with "Maiden"
Among them is the young Englishwoman Tracy Edwards, who is determined to take part in the Whitbread Round the World Race. And this in 1989, when the then 26-year-old was facing strong headwinds from the male-dominated sport of sailing. She also had neither a crew nor a boat.
And yet she makes it and starts the legendary crew race around the world with the first all-female crew on 2 September 1989.
"You are not strong enough. You will die" - trailer for the sailing film of the new Ocean Filmt Tour: "Maiden"
The sailing documentary in the programme of the seventh Ocean Film Tour tells the unique story of this pioneering voyage.
Tip: A great interview with Tracy Edwards about her performance at the time and her new mission will also appear in the new YACHT 5/2020, which will be available from 19 February.
Diving, surfing, protecting the oceans
In addition to "Maiden", four other short films will be shown in the two-and-a-half-hour programme. For example, about the unstoppable surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm in the water at the age of 13 and still made a career out of surfing. Or about marine photographer Mike deGruy, who documents environmental destruction with his underwater shots and wants to shake things up.
In many cities, the tour will be accompanied by environmental organisations and activists who will provide information on what each individual can do to protect the world's oceans and its inhabitants.
The screenings will take place throughout Germany until mid-May 2020. Ticket sales have already begun and some performances are already sold out.
YACHT is giving away free tickets
The editorial team is giving away five free tickets for a screening of the 7th International Ocean Film Tour. The winners can choose the venue - the premiere on 3 March and sold-out events are excluded.
