No fewer than 150 photographers from 29 countries submitted their best work for this year's Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award - a record number of applicants. The jury has selected the top 20 from this large selection and has now published them. The images will also be exhibited at the annual World Sailing conference in Abu Dhabi and at the Yacht Racing Forum in Malta.
Three German photographers have made it into the selection and therefore have a chance of winning the overall title:Eike Schurr, who came fourth last year. His picture shows a moment from the world of The Ocean Race, in which the sailors are "framed" by spray in an unusual way. Kieler Woche photographerChristian Beeck is entering the race with a sporting eye on the International 14 Worlds 2022.Felix Diemer on the other hand, captured a strong action moment in the SailGP.
The winner will be announced next Monday together with all the winners of the competition at the Yacht Racing Forum's evening reception at the Maltese National Aquarium. The event will be streamed live on Facebook.
The top prize is chosen by the six members of the international jury: World Sailing CEO David Graham from England, Magenta Project Chairwoman Jonquil Hackenberg from England, AFP photographer and 2021 winner Loïc Venance (France), marketing and media consultant Meg Reilly (USA), "Skippers" Editor-in-Chief Brice Chevallier (Switzerland) and Nicolas Mirabaud (Switzerland), Managing Partner of Mirabaud & Cie SA.
A total of three prizes will be awarded: the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award (main prize), the winner of which will be chosen by the international jury. There is also the "Public Award", which is based on the number of votes cast on the Internet. And last but not least, the "Delegates Award", which is based on the votes cast by participants at the annual World Sailing Conference.
