The ocean sailing association based in Cuxhaven elected a new board at its annual general meeting on Saturday. The new first Chairman of Trans-Ocean is Marcus Warnke from Hamburg. Thomas von Haken takes over the office of Deputy Chairman. In the evening, both well-known and lesser-known faces of German ocean sailing received awards for exceptional blue water voyages or regatta successes

New chairman after a long search

With the appointment of Marcus Warnke as Chairman of the Board, the Rhinelander is taking over a position in the association that has been characterised by many changes in recent years and has been vacant for a long time. Lore Haack-Vörsmann last held the position at the beginning of the year after just a few months. unexpectedly resigned. Warnke wants to bring new continuity to the organisation's management. The 58-year-old works as a management consultant in Hamburg and is the owner of a Hallberg-Rassy 352 moored on the Elbe.

Warnke was previously responsible for development on the Executive Board and sees his strengths here due to his professional expertise. He wants to develop Trans-Ocean further and also focus more on the interests of younger members.

Warnke will be supported in future by his new deputy, Thomas von Haken, owner of an Ovni 36. The engineer from Berlin replaces the Bremen lawyer Egon Lutomsky, who has managed the association on an interim basis in recent years but did not stand for re-election. Egon Lutomsky was made an honorary member of Trans-Ocean for his commitment.

Prices for blue water cruises on small and large yachts

The over 4,000 members of the association are scattered around the globe, travelling thousands of nautical miles every year. Once a year, particularly outstanding trips or achievements are honoured. OneTO medal went toMichael Gramse and his family for a remarkable voyage around South America during the coronavirus pandemic. Also honoured with this award were the AustriansJürgen and Claudia Kirchberger for a brisk trip to Greenland and back last summer.

TheWorld Circumnavigator Awardwent to Angela Resch and Reto Valär on their catamaran "She San", a Fountaine Pajot Belize 43 catamaran.

Two particularly noteworthy trips were also presented: The Stuttgart resident living in AustriaNicolas Manthos sailed his Hurley 18 "¼ Life Crises" first across the Mediterranean and then single-handed to the Caribbean in February 2022. Next spring, the flight instructor wants to sail the boat back alone.

Thomas Hertes and Annette Vaneksailed an extensive North Sea cruise with a changing crew: over two years, they and 23 sailors travelled almost 5,000 nautical miles around England and along the Norwegian coast in 25 stages.
