"The Sound will be colourful" is the motto under which the Initiative Freie Ostsee Schleswig-Holstein and the Burger Segelvereinigung have called for a rally next Friday to protest against the Baltic Sea National Park. Sailors, surfers, SUPers and other water sports enthusiasts are to meet in Fehmarn Sound west of the bridge at around 6 pm to demonstrate unity and create media-effective images. All water sports clubs, associations, professional groups and recreational athletes are invited to take part in the rally. Land-based participants and spectators meet around the Strukkamphuk lighthouse.
The event should last around 15 to 30 minutes. The "MS Seho" will give the signal for the beginning and end, communication will take place on VHF channel 15. The organisers would like to point out that participation is at your own risk.
In general, the expected number of different water sports enthusiasts requires extremely careful navigation. The water area in the Fehmarn Sound is divided into different zones for the rally. The individual zones are defined by the following buoys:
The core zone is intended for passenger ships, fishing boats and motorised vessels, and this is also where the press photos will be taken. Sailing is also permitted in the general zone. "Please keep clear of other vessels and navigate carefully. If there is shipping traffic in the Kiel-Fehmarnsund route, please grant right of way in any case. NO spinnaker and no speed actions," are the sailing instructions from the organisers. You can also sail faster in the free zone. The area in front of the Strukkamphuk campsite is reserved for surfers and SUPers (see map).
"With our rally, we want to express the great fears that a Baltic Sea National Park with inevitable bans will bring," say the initiators.
The protest from the water sports scene against the Baltic Sea National Park is becoming more and more present shortly before the water sports workshop on 11 July. In addition to the rally, the Initiative Freie Ostsee Schleswig-Holstein is currently running a flyer and poster campaign.
