Quick Nautical Equipment presents the Olympic series, a further development of the ploughshare anchor. Thanks to optimised lead distribution and air inclusions, the anchors offer improved burial properties in a compact design.

With the Olympic series, the manufacturer Quick offers stainless steel anchors from 7 to 140 kilograms. The anchors promise to improve the tried-and-tested plough anchor principle through innovative design details. The most striking feature of the Olympic anchors is the lead distribution. A larger amount of lead shifts the centre of gravity closer to the tip. This should result in faster and more reliable digging into the ground. At the same time, the anchor remains easy to handle thanks to its compact design.

They are manufactured from welded sheet metal. This creates cavities that are filled with air. These air pockets create a slight buoyancy, which is also intended to support the optimum alignment of the anchor on the ground.

Secure hold on difficult anchorages

In practice, the improved weight distribution should be particularly noticeable on difficult anchorage surfaces. On hard sand, the Olympic anchor could grip faster and more reliably than conventional ploughshare anchor designs.

The compact design also makes handling on board easier. The anchor fits on most standard bow rollers. A specially developed swivel ensures that the anchor automatically rotates into the correct position when hauling in. This prevents jamming in the roller and makes it easier to retrieve the anchor.

Stainless and polished

Quick uses stainless materials in its production. The anchor swivel is made of corrosion-resistant AISI 630 stainless steel, which is normally used in the aerospace industry. It is significantly more resilient than the 316 stainless steel normally used.

The Olympic series covers a wide range of sizes. There are models from 7 to 60 kg for boats from 6 to 20 metres in length. In the exciting size range for sailing yachts up to 40 feet, the Olympic series offers four models: with weights of 7, 10, 16 and 20 kilograms. The 10-kilogram model is suitable for chains with six to eight millimetres and boats with a displacement of up to 3.8 tonnes. Price: 1,540 euros.
