The new Garmin GPSMAP 1523xsv chart plotter comes with a screen diagonal of 15 inches, but only requires the height of a 9-inch device. This so-called ultrawide format should make it easy to integrate into helm stations. The fun part is that the display offers significantly more space for different displays, such as chart view and instrument data.
The chartplotter's IPS display is optimised for the simultaneous display of several applications. Frequently used data can be displayed via sidebars without having to change the screen. For example, users can display chart material, echo sounder images and engine data in parallel. Optional Garmin Navionics+ or Garmin Navionics Vision+ premium maps are available for navigation. These offer relief shading, high-resolution satellite images and other map functions. The integrated Auto Guidance+ technology enables automatic route planning. The purchase price of just under 4500 euros includes a one-year subscription for daily map updates.
The GPSMAP 1523xsv has integrated Ultra HD SideVü and ClearVü echo sounders. However, a separate, optional Garmin transducer is required to use these. The device also supports Panoptix and LiveScope echo sounders as well as traditional CHIRP echo sounders. Other devices such as autopilots, radar devices or cameras can be integrated via NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183. The OneHelm solution enables the integration of third-party devices. Engine data such as engine speed and fuel flow can be sent to the chart plotter via the J1939 network. Garmin offers two options for installation: A flush, flat integration at the helm or a surface-mounted installation using a bracket with mounting knobs that allows the device to be tilted.
