The Foil Spray Top jacket offers sailors lightweight protection from spray and wind. The stretchy material allows full freedom of movement. The jacket can also be stowed away very compactly.

The Foil Spray Top jacket from Slam is aimed at active sailors looking for a lightweight protective layer. The garment combines waterproofness with high breathability and freedom of movement. This makes it particularly suitable for fast dinghies, skiffs and foilers.

Lightweight and space-saving

According to the manufacturer, the thin top is designed to protect against spray and cold wind and can be worn over a wetsuit or a warming mid-layer. The 3-layer mini ripstop fabric with PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating achieves a water column of 20,000 millimetres. The breathability is 30,000 grams per cubic metre in 24 hours. In comparison, robust offshore jackets offer values of around 28,000 millimetres and 20,000 grams, but are significantly heavier and stiffer. The focus in the development of the Foil Top is therefore clearly on freedom of movement and breathability. At the same time, protection from spray is not neglected. The thin top is not designed to keep you warm. The premise here is that very active sailors are more likely to be too warm than too cold. However, it does protect against cooling down in the wind when sweating due to high levels of activity.

The seams of the foil top are taped and the cuffs and hem are reinforced with silicone. This prevents splash water from penetrating. The jacket weighs just 280 grams in size L and can be folded up to the size of a fist. The small pack size offers the advantage of being able to take it with you on dinghies if the weather turns bad. The half-length zip on the chest not only makes it easier to slip on, but is also intended to provide air conditioning when it gets too warm after a particularly high level of activity.

Lots of freedom

The cut and stretch material allow plenty of freedom of movement. This allows complete freedom when trimming or at the winch. However, the jacket still fits snugly so that there is no risk of getting caught on fittings.

The Foil Spray Top is ideal for day trips in mild conditions. However, it can also be useful for regattas and high levels of activity when there is a lot of wind and spray if a wetsuit is worn underneath.

The jacket dries very quickly after getting wet. The Foil Spray Top from Slam is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester. The inner layer is also made from 100 per cent recycled nylon. The Foil Top from Slam is available in the colours Dark Navy and Cliff Grey and costs 210 euros.
