With the IceCube compressor cooler, Plug in Festivals has created a product that not only fulfils all the necessary functions, but also impresses with clever extras - and at a good price.

The IceCube cool box from Plug in Festivals is available in five sizes: 25, 30, 40, 50 and 65 litres. All models share a footprint of 658 x 368 millimetres (including handles) and weigh between 13.5 and 20 kilograms, depending on the size. The only difference between the variants is the height. This modular design, in which standardised lids are used for all sizes, for example, saves production costs and ensures well thought-out functionality.

Flexible use and smart details

The removable handles reduce the footprint to 580 millimetres, which is particularly practical if the cooler is to be permanently installed. The lid can be mounted on both the long and the short side, which offers additional installation options. A small metal chain ensures a secure hold.

Other practical details include a drain for easy cleaning and an interior light that makes handling easier in poor lighting conditions. The cool box offers a temperature range of -20°C to +20°C and has two operating modes: in Max mode, it achieves maximum cooling capacity, while Eco mode reduces energy consumption and allows the box to work more quietly. In Eco mode, the box operates particularly quietly and switches off as soon as the desired temperature is reached. Even in Max mode, the noise level remains pleasantly low - a maximum of 51 dB(A) was measured in the test.

Power supply and additional features of the cool box

The cool box can be operated flexibly with 12, 24 or 230 volts. Ideal for use in the car, boat or on land. The 12-volt and 230-volt power supply unit is included in the scope of delivery. An integrated battery monitor protects the consumer battery from deep discharge and mobile devices can be charged via a USB-A connection. The box can also be conveniently controlled via a free app for Android and iOS. The app provides the same information as the display.

IceCube cooler performance and suitability for everyday use

The box also cuts an excellent figure on the boat. The large footprint ensures stability, even in waves, whether loaded or empty. The robust design even allows the cool box to be used as a step. Even without active cooling, the IceCube keeps the temperature stable: in our test, the temperature only rose from 6°C to 9°C within six hours.

The scope of delivery includes a 12-volt and a 230-volt cable, a wire basket for easy loading and clear operating instructions with useful tips.

Ole Puls was born in Schleswig in 1999. He quickly swapped the football pitch for the Schlei and grew up sailing a wide variety of dinghies and tall ships. From his grandfather's self-built wooden opti and a Europe to a 49er and an X362 Sport, there was a lot to choose from. After leaving school, Puls decided to train as a boat builder at the high-tech shipyard Knierim Yachtbau in Kiel in 2016. He successfully completed his training in 2020 and stayed at the shipyard as a bachelor. In 2022, he decided not only to build boats, but also to test them. Since then, he has been working for Delius Klasing Verlag in the Test & Technology section of BOOTE magazine. The training he received and the eye for detail and quality of workmanship he acquired help him immensely today. Even though he is a regatta sailor with heart and soul, he feels right at home on motorboats and enjoys separating his professional and private lives and yet combining them. Because we all know one thing: there is simply no better place to be than on the water.
