The new 4K displays of the GPSMAP 9000 series from Garmin
Bigger, faster, sharper: With the GPSMAP 9000 series, the Swiss manufacturer Garmin presents the largest multifunctional displays in 4K resolution for boats

Garmin is launching its new flagship with this series. The GPSMAP 9000 plotters have a particularly high 4K resolution for an extremely sharp display of map and radar images. The processor has also been updated and is said to be seven times faster than that of the previous model. With screen diagonals of 19, 22, 24 and 27 inches, the models are very large. For comparison: 27 inches is almost 70 centimetres. The touchscreen is said to deliver a particularly clear image that is easy to read even in bright sunlight and can also be read with polarised sunglasses. The plotter is recessed into the bulkhead or a dashboard and is then almost flush with the surface.

This is how much the new plotter series from Garmin will cost

With the new BlueNet gigabit network from Garmin, several plotters, radar devices, cameras or echo sounders can be connected and should benefit from a particularly high network speed. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 can also be used to connect transducers and other instruments in the on-board network to the GPSMAP 9000 in the conventional way. The new plotter supports Garmin Navionics+ nautical charts. A one-year map subscription with daily updates is included with the purchase of the new plotter. But the price is also quite something: from October, the new plotter series will be available from 10,500 euros. Accessories such as a GPS 24xd position receiver with antenna are included.

An overview of the competition from Garmin

We have already analysed all of the competitorsdetailed tested and compared:

B&G Zeus S

B&G is fully focussed on sailing and regatta functions. The hardware and software are a completely new development, which was noticeable in the pre-production model in the test on some hooks. The new user interface is a gain. Price: 1,700 euros

Q-Experience Q2 display

The Finnish navigation device is reminiscent of a built-in tablet. It responds well to inputs. The user interface is easy to understand. The Q2 display is designed for motorboats and offers hardly any sailing-specific functions. Price: 2,599 euros

Raymarine Axiom 2 Pro

The plotter is a real multi-tool, aimed at sailors, motor boaters and fishermen. The plotter's software covers everything and also works with Raymarine camera systems to virtually display sea marks and waypoints. Price: 2,960 euros
