HPX stands for High Performance and marks the top category for offshore regatta professionals in the Musto range. Jackets and trousers with this abbreviation are designed to be even more durable and comfortable than the tried-and-tested MPX series, which is also designed for offshore sailing. LPX, on the other hand, is intended for the classic day regatta in coastal areas, rather light and without lining. Or as oilskins for warmer waters.
The new HPX collection includes the Pro Ocean Jacket, the Pro Ocean Smock and the Pro Ocean Trousers. All items of clothing that are currently being worn by some regatta sailors in The Ocean Race. What's new is that Musto is now also using recycled materials in its HPX products. The three-layer material with Gore-Tex Pro membrane is said to be particularly breathable, the collar is extremely high, fleece-lined and the cuffs provide double protection against water ingress. Stretch inserts on the back and sleeves increase freedom of movement, and Cordura patches protect particularly exposed areas from abrasion. Reflectors on the shoulders and sleeves increase visibility; the hood also reflects light strongly. The jacket has heat pockets on the chest, but not the smock. The jacket and smock cost €1,199 each. Colours: Gold and True Red.
The women's version of the trousers has a new feature: the drop-seat function. The zip, which can be opened once around the hips above the buttocks, makes it easier to go to the toilet. The version for women with this detail is more expensive and costs 989 euros. The version for men is available for 949 euros. The jacket and smock are available as unisex models in sizes XS to XXL. The same applies to the trousers for men. Sizes 8 to 18 are available for women.
The southern German manufacturer Marinepool is launching two new oilskin jackets in the Coastal category for the season. Both are free from perfluorocarbon, which is suspected of causing cancer, and are breathable. They are easy to repair thanks to a zip in the lining. The outer zips are water-repellent and are covered by a double strip.
The collars are designed to be high and protective, while the signal yellow hood allows a 180-degree view. The collar ends are edged with neoprene to prevent skin irritation. The lining is divided into two parts; in the upper chest area, the material allows "optimum breathability", according to the manufacturer. Both jackets are equipped with reflectors on the shoulders. The prices: Sonja (blue jacket) 379 euros, Langholm 399 euros (red jacket).
Raymarine's CAM300 is a video camera for mounting in the mast. The device can be coupled with plotters from the Axiom series. Augmented reality allows AIS targets, waypoints and obstacles to be superimposed on the camera image. This makes it possible, for example, to maintain an overview below deck when the autopilot is steering.
The camera offers a day and night mode, HD resolution and is IP66 waterproof. With dimensions of 6.0 x 5.3 centimetres, the device is very compact. It weighs 420 grams and is supplied with power via the Ethernet connection. From software version Light-House 4.2 or higher. The price is 640 euros.
PowerGuard Pro is the new battery box from Attwood. The plastic housing is designed to protect the battery and keep it dry yet ventilated. The box is also secured with the supplied strap so that the battery does not slip in rough seas. Inside, the box measures 33.3 x 17.8 x 28.0 centimetres. On the outside, it measures 53.4 x 28.6 x 29.2 centimetres. The PowerGuard Pro battery box is available from 54 euros. Attwood is part of the Navico group of companies, which includes brands such as B&G, Lowrance, Mastervolt, C-Map, CZone and Simrad.
