Reader tip of the week: Rear bracket for folding mastsPhoto: YACHT/J. Peschke
The five-part stainless steel structure is sometimes a mast support and sometimes a dinghy mount
This convenient steel construction makes it even easier for those who frequently lay the mast due to bridge crossings - and gains an inflatable boat mount

Our boat is moored on the Elbe just behind Hamburg. So it's inevitable that we have to sail under a few bridges on our trips. The folding mast makes this much easier, but I had a mast bracket made so that everything stays in place when the rig is laid down and nothing slips in the stern wave of a pushed convoy.

The stainless steel construction consists of five parts: two tubes that are inserted into specially installed sleeves on the pushpit and two angle pieces bolted to a bow roller on which the mast rests. When the roller is removed, the support is transformed into davits for transporting a dinghy at the stern. For this purpose, a small buoy is attached to each side so that the dinghy can be safely hauled up and lowered. If neither the mast support nor the davits are needed, the individual parts can be quickly stowed away in the forecastle box.

It is important to ensure that the sleeves are securely fastened to the rear basket.and the pushpit itself is stable enough to absorb the forces. Particularly high load moments occur when a dinghy is attached.
